The Mouth of the Beast

Opening

the door

was ill-advised:

against the better judgment

of the room

ablaze

behind it.

Embracing,

was dangerous –

deadly –

the split-second moment

where the truck

hits

the body.

Talking

was a scream

in a tiny,

silent room:

unwelcome,

rude,

surprising.

Taking the briefest kiss

on the lips

was to look directly

into the mouth

of the beast,

and come out –

of course –

scarred;

naturally,

ripped

to

pieces.

Every

heartbeat

was wrong:

out of time

and out

of tune.

This

is madness,

and it aches

inside this chest.

and was glad that you came;

of the moments I enjoyed;

and absolutely outside them;

The teeth

of a key,

are that which

bites

with cruelty,

anger

bitterness and spite.

The turn of a key

new direction.

The Path of Least Resistance

Like

a pure

trickling river,

flowing peacefully

as it

everything

works itself out
